"Golden House & Castle Rock" - 1.07.007
Golden House
Circa 1873
This image is of one of the largest hotels in Golden's history, the Golden
House. It was built where the Armory now stands at the southeast corner
of 13th and Arapahoe Streets, in 1870. In its time it was Golden's premier
hostelry, constructed by John J. Bush, whose Italianate mansion can be seen
at the roof level in the rear of the Golden House. The Golden House
was originally projected to be taller but builders stopped when the Golden
City Brick Works ran out of bricks. The Golden House and Bush Mansion
were destroyed by fire in 1878.
