This photograph was taken from the upper floor of the present-day Woods Mortuary
looking southeast across Washington Avenue towards Castle Rock. Pictured
from left to right are: the Garbareno Building as Louis Garbareno's
billiard hall (now south part of Golden West Realty at 1101 Washington Ave.,
1866); Loveland Building (1859-1930) as a dry goods store; the Jefferson Coal
Company building (proprietors of the Black Diamond Mine, building prefabricated
and brought to Golden in 1871, destroyed 1904); Clark Building as the grocery
of Charles A. Clark (originally 21 Washington Ave., 1867-1904); and the Transcript
Building (now 1115 Washington Ave., 1870), housing the Kelly Drug Store (1st
floor) and Colorado (now Golden) Transcript newspaper (2nd floor). Also
pictured at upper right center is the tower of the First Baptist Church (southwest
corner of 12th and Jackson Sts., built 1867, destroyed 1963).
