"View of Golden City, celebrated for its coal mines and manufactories" - 1.07.033
Wells Fargo
Circa 1867
Photographed here is the complex of Wells, Fargo & Company while operating
in Golden between 1866 and the 1874. This picture is taken from 14th
and Arapahoe Sts. looking northeast towards the frame and stone Wells Fargo
buildings and corral that stood at the southeast corner of present-day 13th
and Washington. These buildings were both stables for the horses of
Wells Fargo stagecoach operations, serving as a station and switching point
between mountain and plains routes. Wells Fargo buildings were destroyed
in 1915 (left frame building) and 1948 (right stone building). Fragment
of building at left is the Loveland Mansion (1864-1994, northeast corner 14th
and Arapahoe Sts.).
