2006-2007 Table Mountains Tales Writing Contest

What: As signposts in our community, North and South Table Mountain trigger a wealth of stories and memories about the Golden area. You are invited to share your own special tales and recollections and submit them to the Table Mountain Tales writing contest.

Who: The contest is for youth (under 18 years of age) and adults and is sponsored by the Golden Landmarks Association (GLA) and the Table Mountains Conservation Fund, Inc. GLA is a nonprofit organization created to help preserve and protect the history and traditions of the Golden area. The Table Mountains Conservation Fund is a nonprofit created to preserve and protect the mesas of North and South Table Mountains.

When: All entries must be postmarked by midnight, February 12, 2007.

Contest Rules:
• Entries must be original and previously unpublished. One entry per person.
• Entries may be fiction or nonfiction.
• Entries must be typed, double-spaced, and limited to no more than 1,000 words. Submission by email is highly encouraged. Please place the entry in the body of the email; do not send in an attachment.
• Entries must include a separate title page listing author’s name, complete address, telephone number and email address. If an entry is in the youth category, age of the entrant and name of school must also be included on title page. No indication of the author’s identity may occur on any page except the title page of the entry. Entries with author identification in the body of the entry will be disqualified.

Each entry is considered authorization to GLA for possible publication/distribution in book or electronic format. GLA will maintain First Rights on all entries.

Judging: Entries will be judged by a panel of volunteer community members. Entries will be evaluated in terms of theme relevance (North/South Table Mountains and Golden community) as well as reading enjoyment and human interest.

Adults
First Place - $75
Second Place - $50
Third Place - $30

Youth
Elementary -- First prize $50, two honorable mentions $30 each
Middle School – First prize $50, two honorable mentions $30 each
High School -- First prize $50, two honorable mentions $30 each
